1.TOPOGRAPHY,LANDFORMS AND GEOLOGY
The urban district of Yangzhou is topographically high in the northwest and in the southeast.the landforms of the city proper are characterized by plain, with 5-12 meter above the ground level.
The geological structure of the Development Zone belongs to the fourth period stratum. It is a part of the Yangtse Alluvial Plain and thus categorized as alluvial fiat, which is abundant in clayey soil and soil. The alluvial flat is approximately 56-64 meter in depth, and the deepest may reach 75 meter. The foundation is geologically the depositional layer of fluvialite faces, which is subdivided into three layers:the first layer is 0.0-1.5 meter thick, lithologically deposited with yellowish Grey light loam;the second layer 1.5-5.0 meter with yellowish Grey light loam;and the third layer -5.0-- -20.0 meter, with dark blue Grey light loam or powdered sand. The soillayer in this area is generally stable and evenly distributed, and geologically ideal for engineering.
2.HYDROGEOLOGY
The ground water in this district is divided into 4 water-bearing strata, that is,paretic water aquifer, shallow aquifer, confined aquifer and basement crevice water.Put it specifically, the paretic water aquifer is alluvial deposits of Holocene series Q4 and is distributed all over the city.It is lithologically structured with Grey or greyish yellow sandy loam and powdered sand, about 5-20 meter in thickness; The water level is staged 1-3 meter deep. The shallow aquifer is alluvial deposits of Upper Pleistocene series Q3.It is lithologically structured with Grey powdered sand,Grey or greyish Yellow tiny sand and medium sand. The water level is staged 2-6 meter deep. The confined aquifer is ancient Yangtse alluvial deposits of Middle and Lower Pleistocene Series Q2-Q1.It is lithologically structured with yellowish white medium sand and pebbly coarse sand, about 8-60 meter n thickness. The water level is staged 1.5-25 meter deep. The basement crevice water mainly contains tectonic crevice water.
3.CLIMATE
Yangzhou is situated in the northern subtropical zone, which is distinctly demarcated by four seasons and seasonal winds.North wind prevails in cold winter, southeast wind blows from the sea in summer. In spring and autumn, southeast wind and northeast wind prevail respectively. The annual wind velocity average is 3.0m/second and the annual temperature average is 14.8?The local climate is in the large degree influenced by the marine climate. The rainfall,as a result,is plentiful in the hot season. The annual rainfall average comes to 1046.2 mm and the annual relative humidity remains at 79%.
